Which AI services will appear in Diia: Results of the DiiaAI.Contest hackathon

09/12/2025
Together with EPAM Ukraine and the WINWIN AI Center of Excellence, we held the first Diia.AIContest hackathon. The goal was to develop new AI-powered services for the Diia ecosystem.

Over three weeks, the teams worked on new AI products for the Diia app. The hackathon drew 270 applicants, and 10 teams with the strongest prototypes made it to the finals. The winning teams’ solutions have every chance of becoming new services for citizens in the Diia ecosystem.

Three winners received grants totaling $8,000 and mentorship support from EPAM Ukraine. Most importantly, their solutions may soon appear in the Diia app:

First place — the “The role of LLMs is overrated” team, with an AI translator for official document approval that makes the translation and notarization of citizens’ personal documents fully digital and accessible through Diia.

Second place — the DiAI team, whose service allows citizens to report parking violations in Diia using a photo and geolocation. The result: fewer traffic jams and more available parking spots, including for people with disabilities.

Third place — the ShiftWave AI team, which developed an AI-powered legal document builder. It allows citizens to create legally sound contracts in minutes—without risky online templates or spending money on lawyers.

Hackathon participants also developed:

  • An AI navigator for public utilities — helps users quickly determine where to report a municipal issue and automatically generates a properly formatted request, saving time.

  • A document photo verification service — ensures that document photos submitted in Diia meet requirements on the first try, with instant feedback on image quality.

  • Rodovid, a digital family tree — helps users research, preserve, and visualize their family history.

  • Yana, an internal AI assistant for the design team — automates routine tasks in building new Diia services, accelerates prototyping of AI solutions for internal teams and partners, and streamlines onboarding for new teams.

In our 20 years in Ukraine, we at EPAM have seen that real change requires not only technical skills but also drive, and Diia.AIContest proved that perfectly. The teams didn’t wait for ideal conditions — they created solutions on the spot. The intensity of their work is clear from the numbers: through our EPAM AI/Run platform alone, they processed 800 million tokens and 120,000 requests. This hackathon showed that Ukraine has tremendous potential in developing AI solutions for public services.

Over three weeks, the teams completed six workshops led by experts from EPAM Ukraine and AWS, as well as Q&A sessions with the Diia team. All participants learned how to build AI assistants, work with large language models on the EPAM AI/Run platform, and automate request processing.

The hackathon demonstrated the strength of our innovator community, who are ready to drive change in the country today. And this is only the beginning. More breakthroughs, new products, and new teams shaping the future of the Diia ecosystem and digital Ukraine lie ahead.

The cloud infrastructure for the hackathon was provided by Amazon Web Services, which supplied the necessary tools and environment for developing and testing prototypes.
